Africa's first certified fish farm is in Kenya

Kamuthanga fish farm in Machakos is a Dutch-Kenyan joint venture and developed with Dutch knowledge and technology and supported by the FDOV aquaculture development programme FoodTechAfrica. 

This programme has been set up with support from the Sustainable Entrepreneurship and Food Security Facility (FDOV).

The Kamuthanga fish farm in Machakos has been awarded with the Platinum EcoMark Africa certificate by ARSO, the African Organisation for Standardisation. Companies that receive this award aim for a global shift towards sustainable consumption and production. Kamuthanga is a good example of how tilapia can be farmed in a sustainable a safe way for the local Kenyan market.
