Eindhoven, Europe’s most innovative city

About Holland

Eindhoven is the most innovative city in Europe. At least, that is what the European Commission (EC) concludes after a new report.

The EC monitor compares 190 cities, 90% of which are located in Europe. Various aspects of these cities are compared. These include how much culture there is, participation in cultural activities, jobs in the creative sector, and intellectual property. Factors such as education, trust and tolerance, quality of governance, and local connections between organisations are also taken into account.

Eindhoven scores particularly high on intellectual property and innovation, but also education and governance. According to the Commission, Eindhoven’s cultural offerings can be improved. There are also opportunities to create more jobs in the cultural sector, according to the writers.

Other cities that fared well according to the monitor are Florence, Paris, Budapest and the Danish city of Aarhus.
