Holland alumni charity during the celebration of Kartini Day in Indonesia

Alumni stories

Kartini day is celebrated by the Indonesian in April 21 to commemorate the birth of RA. Kartini, the national heroine for her strong role in promoting gender equity and women's right, especially education. Therefore, she is hailed as a symbol of modern women empowerment in the country.

To celebrate Kartini day, in previews years, women and girls in offices and schools wear Kebaya (a traditional Javanese blouse) and do some parade. However, due to the pandemic, Kartini day was not celebrated rousingly this year.'

Interestingly, our women Holland alumni celebrated the Kartini day by distributing the donations collected by I am Stuned (the alumni association of StuNed awardee) and the Holland alumni Charity Program to some hospitals and the Covid-19 health centers in Jakarta, Tangerang and Bekasi. The donations consist of hazmat (coverall jumpsuit), shoes cover, cloth masks, socks and face shields. This program represents dedication of Holland alumni in Indonesia to support Government and the community at battling the outbreak of Covid-19.

Suci Anatasia who acts as the field coordinator of the fund-raising program of I am Stuned (and another Holland alumni in Indonesia) said that the distribution of donations are not only to those big hospitals in greater Jakarta but also to some small hospitals in Bekasi and Tangerang. The distribution was done by empowering ojek-online service in Jakarta in order to help at escalating ojek-online driver economic gain amid COVID 19 pandemic. ‘I do believe, our small positive act will give larger impact and hopefully happiness for others’, Suci added
