Talkshow and Networking Event: Why Invest in Indonesia? Towards A Productive Trade Regime

The registration deadline has expired.

Why invest in Indonesia?  The Indonesian Government has established an ambitious goal of 5,4% economic growth for 2018. The Government aims to promote trade, attract more foreign investment and improve the climate of doing business with- and in Indonesia. The question which trade regime will effectively govern Indonesia’s business and investment climate is pertinent to the success of the Government’s growth and development ambitions. Many countries are currently recalibrating their international trade policies.

A trade regime is the system of tariff and non-tariff barriers and export incentive schemes aimed at strengthening the short-term competitiveness of local producers. It is also intended to create clarity, consistency and certainty for investment, either national or foreign; in short predictability. Different levels of trade regimes have different purposes and impacts. In the current political climate, the pros and cons of collaboration at a global and/or regional level are equally subject of discussion. On the other hand, the Netherlands is the 4th largest investor in Indonesia with over US$ 1.5 billion annually. The development of a productive trade regime for Indonesia is of essential relationship between the two countries.
