Workshop: "Pitching With Impact"
One of the most common pieces of advice when it comes to job interviews is that you have to “sell yourself” to the people who are interviewing you for the position. It’s an odd phrase, but it’s true: you are being interviewed to take on a job, and your employer pays you to do that job. They are literally investing money in your time and your skills! This is why selling yourself, your ideas, and your goals in an effective way is so important. And it goes way beyond the workplace - in many ways, we sell ourselves every day.
This is where the idea of the “pitch” comes in. A pitch is simply a dialogue meant to persuade someone to act or believe in something that is important to you. At a job interview or an interview for a volunteer position, you need to pitch yourself and your skills; when you ask for a raise or promotion, you need to pitch the reasons you deserve them; and even those of you who are self-employed, when you’re trying to get a new client to work with you, you need to have a pitch. In this way, it helps to have a short answer ready for the question, “What are you looking for?” Your pitch needs to state your view of what you can do for the world, and what’s perhaps even more vital, what you need from the world right now in order to move forward and achieve your goals.
It’s in this spirit that Volunteer the Hague invites you to our next FREE workshop on 5 November: “Pitching with Impact!” with pitch coach Frank Smallegange. In this workshop, Frank will work with you to help you hone and practice your pitching skills by helping you to find your own pitch and to adapt it to any situation!
By participating in this workshop you will learn:
- The benefits of honing your pitching skills for the job market, for interviews for volunteer positions, and for getting your ideas out to the workplace and the world.
- Defining to whom you want to pitch and what you want or need from this target audience.
- A basic personal pitch when somebody asks you the important question, "What can you do for us?"
- Important insight into how to adapt this pitch when your needs change in the future.
