In February 2017, IHS will be hosting a refresher course in cooperation with Urban Research Development Institute and IHS Alumni Myanmar. The course focusses on the topic "Inclusive city: Migrant women and their right to housing and basic services in the city" and will be open to NFP alumni from the entire Southeast Asian region.

The course is organized in four modules which aim at achieving the main objective of increasing and deepening the knowledge of participants regarding the right to housing and basic services in the city of female migrants. The combination of lectures, peer exchange, and filed research allows participants to better absorb new information and apply it to concrete issues through specific methods and techniques.

Modules 1 and 2 aim to recognize and contextualize core principles of the right to the city and what that means to migrant women, focusing of their causes of migration and their right to housing and basic services. Module 3 focuses on research methodologies and instruments and therefore addresses the second specific objective to develop further research skills. This module also includes some field work. Both modules 3 and 4 address the issue of gaining experience with the concept of the right to housing and basic services in the city for female migrants through actual field work. Module 4 also presents research findings of the course and identifies the steps for developing a broader research proposal reflected upon by local experts.

Admission requirements: A filled-up online application form and a motivation statement expressing how the course will contribute to one’s professional development, and when applicable the link of  past and/or current professional experience and academic research in one or more of the main themes of the course.
