More than 300 alumni and representatives from 25 Dutch higher education institutions gathered at the Holland Alumni Dinners in four cities last month. The dinners were held in conjunction with the Dutch Placement Days and European Higher Education Fairs, the annual education fairs held in different cities throughout Indonesia.
Aimed to reconnect alumni with each other and to catch up with their universities, the Holland Alumni Dinners were perfect opportunities for alumni to expand their network. According to the database, currently there are almost 10,000 Holland alumni in Indonesia with different education backgrounds, age, and work fields. This vast diversity is what makes the Holland alumni in Indonesia a unique group.
The first dinner was in Bandung, in the evening after the Dutch Placement Day on October 31st, 2016. More than 20 alumni came to the dinner at Hotel Aryaduta, with some already had taken part in the DPD in the afternoon, promoting their alma maters to potential visitors.
Yogyakarta was the second city we visited, and there were more than 40 alumni came to the dinner at the Androwina Restaurant of Sheraton Mustika Hotel. It was held on the 1st of November, a day before the successful EHEF Yogyakarta. The alumni were excited to meet fellow alumni, and also to hear the latest updates from the university staff. Mostly the alumni were from education and government sectors, and they are constantly looking for new academic opportunities to develop their careers.
The biggest alumni dinner was the one in Jakarta, with almost 200 alumni. Taken place at the Erasmus Huis on 3rd of November 2016, the event was opened by speeches from Nuffic Neso Director Mervin Bakker, Education Advisor of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands Sarah Spronk, Ikaned Co-founder Theo Lekatompessy, and a presentation on Holland Alumni Network in Indonesia by Alumni Officer Oxalis Atindriyaratri.
