King Willem-Alexander will be attending the fifth edition of nl4talents on 23 November. This event, organised by EP-Nuffic, is intended for talented international students who wish to stay connected with the Netherlands once their study programme has come to an end.

The king will attend ‘Holland Alumni live on stage’, a programme component which allows alumni to show how they have retained links with the Netherlands. After the students have been awarded the title of ‘Talent class 2016/2017’, the king will meet students and alumni.

Preparing students for careers

Every year, nl4talents focuses on the importance of international students for the Dutch knowledge economy and the quality of education. The event gives students the opportunity to attend workshops which will prepare them for a career in the Netherlands or abroad, while still retaining links with the country. For example, there are workshops on presentation and job application skills as well as a workshop on ‘How the Dutch workplace works’.

25,000th NFP scholarship

As well as the international students, every year several hundred professionals from developing countries come to the Netherlands for a short or longer study period via the Netherlands Fellowship Programmes (NFP). After their studies, they return to their own country where they can use their new-found knowledge to strengthen their organisation. The 25,000th NFP scholarship will be awarded during nl4talents.

Week of the International Student

Nl4talents takes place halfway through the Week of the International Student. During this week, EP-Nuffic will focus on how international students add value to the Netherlands in various different ways. For example, every day of the Week a different international student will vlog about his or her experiences as a student in the Netherlands via a live stream.

Students who remain in the Netherlands

75,000 international students attend Dutch universities and universities of applied sciences each year. Together, they form 10% of the total student population. New figures about the stay rates, the number of students who remain in the Netherlands after their studies, will soon be announced.
