During the trade mission to Indonesia in the last week of November, Prime Minister Rutte met with 400 Indonesian alumni. The visit underlined not only the importance of trade between Indonesia and the Netherlands, but also the value of cooperation in the field of education.
A large number of higher education institutions was present for the mission, as was a delegation of the Ministry of Education. On 22 November, the delegation met with 400 professionals that studied in the Netherlands. Among them was the Indonesian minister of Foreign Affairs, Retno Marsudi, who studied at The Hague University of Applied Sciences.
The Netherlands and Indonesia share many joint education projects. For instance, Rotterdam and Jakarta have been working together on the Dutch Training & Exposure Programme since 2014. This programme, coordinated by Neso Indonesia, focusses on watermanagement. Together with the two cities, Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences, Waterschap Delft and Van Oord are involved in the programme. During the trade mission, an ageement was signed to prolongue the programme. The next stage will start in 2017.
