How do you create and maintain an Agri&Food network that benefits first and foremost alumni, but also Dutch businesses, Dutch embassies, EP-Nuffic and other relevant organisations? Alumni from Ethiopia and Kenya discussed this at the start of the NFP Food Security alumni conference in Addis Ababa. The event, held on 20 and 21 May, attracted over 40 NFP and NICHE alumni from Ethiopia and Kenya as well as representatives of the Dutch embassies in Ethiopia and Kenya, representatives of Dutch institutions, NGO’s and EP-Nuffic.
Alumni cooperation in Food Security
On 20 May, the Dutch embassy's First Secretary on Food Security in Addis Ababa, Mr Jan Willem Nibbering, opened the conference together with Mr Chris Bergholtz, Head of the Scholarships and Subsidies Department at EP-Nuffic. Mr. Stanley Mutua, a member of the Steering Committee of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries in Kenya explained the importance of food security.
The second and final day was dedicated to thematic round-table sessions in the field of food security. Representatives of Ethiopian organisations, in cooperation with Van Hall Larenstein and Wageningen UR Centre of Development Cooperation, as well as ICCO and the Kenyan Dairy company Happy Cow in cooperation with the Dutch embassy in Kenya led interactive and fruitful discussions.
Alumni meet Dutch companies at Dutch Business Day
The first day of the conference was concluded with a festive networking event at the Dutch Business Day, part of the Dutch trade mission that took place in Ethiopia in the same period.
Alumni had the chance to network with delegates of the trade mission and representatives of Dutch and Ethiopian companies, higher education institutions and NGO’s located in Ethiopia.
The alumni conference was organised by EP-Nuffic in The Hague, in close cooperation with Dutch institutions, the Dutch embassies in Ethiopia and Kenya, as well as the alumni associations in both countries.
