In the summer of 2016 the renewed ‘Orientation year for highly educated persons’ was introduced and offers the best of two worlds. International talent will have more opportunities to find employment here, while the Netherlands will be able to retain international students and researchers more easily.

With effect from 1 March 2016, the Orientation year for graduates and the Orientation year for highly educated migrants were merged into a single, improved scheme. The Dutch Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND) and EP-Nuffic have released a video about the opportunities that this new ‘Orientation year for highly educated persons’ offers international students, researchers and companies.

The renewed Orientation year for highly educated persons’ offers the best of two worlds. International talent will have more opportunities to find employment here, while the Netherlands will be able to retain international students and researchers more easily.

Aim of the promotional video
In collaboration with the Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND), EP-Nuffic has produced a video to promote the orientation year. Higher education institutions can show the film during informational or other events. Besides international talent, the orientation year is also interesting for employers. During this year they can familiarise themselves with hiring international talent and also make use of the ‘Reduced salary criterion’.
