The current situation surrounding COVID-19 may affect the procedures for certain grants and scholarships. More information can be found on the Nuffic Corona information page and the individual programme pages listed below.

As many of you know, Nuffic and various Dutch institutions offer scholarships and grants to individuals as well as organisations, such as education and training institutes and alumni associations. For Holland Alumni specifically, we offer Refresher Courses and the OKP grants for alumni activities.

We have created an overview below to help you find the right funding option for you or your organisation

Refresher courses for alumni

Refresher courses are tailor-made training courses initiated by a Dutch education institution or by NFP, MSP, NICHE or OKP alumni (in cooperation with a Dutch institution). The courses contribute to the institutional development of the alumni's employing organisations and prolong the impact of the original training. Participation in the courses is only open to graduates of the NFP, MSP, NICHE or OKP programmes. More information on refresher courses can be found here.

OKP grants for alumni activities

The Orange Knowledge Programme of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs not only offers scholarships to talented individuals, but also aims to contribute to diplomatic relations and sustainable development by investing in local Holland Alumni. Therefore, OKP alumni grants are available to alumni associations in countries participating in the Orange Knowledge Programme to strengthen their local alumni networks, and organise activities in collaboration with Dutch educational institutions and embassies, and the local Dutch business community.

More information about these alumni grants and conditions can be found here.

Individual scholarships for students and professionals

Various scholarships are offered for bachelor, master and PhD programmes as well as short courses in the Netherlands. Scholarships are available for students just starting out, recent graduates as well as mid-career professionals. A complete overview of scholarship opportunities in the Netherlands can be found on www.grantfinder.nl.

Nuffic administers several individual scholarship programmes on behalf of the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science or the Ministry of Foreign AffairsThere are large scholarship programmes covering multiple countries such as the Orange Knowledge Programme (OKP), MENA Scholarship Programme (MSP) and the Holland Scholarship Programme (HSP). But there are also smaller-scale programmes and programmes for specific countries or regions, such as STUNED for IndonesiaSino-Dutch Scholarship for Chinese students and, of course, the Erasmus + programme for Europeans. An overview of all of these scholarships can be found here.

OKP grants for institutional collaboration projects

The Orange Knowledge Programme also offers grants for collaboration projects that will strengthen the vocational and higher education sector in specific countries. Are you working in the education sector, then check out if there is a tender or call open for your country on this Open calls page.

OKP and MSP grants for group training

Furthermore, the Orange Knowledge Programme and MENA Scholarship Programme support organisations in developing countries by training a selected group of staff. Funding is available for three types of group training:

  • Tailor-Made Training (OKP & MSP)
  • Tailor-made Training Plus (OKP)
  • Refresher courses (OKP)

Find out if your training qualifies for a funding on this OKP group training or this MSP Group training page.

Grants for (Dutch) researchers/research institutes

The Dutch Research Council (NOW) funds scientific research at Dutch (research) institutes through a range of funding instruments such as full-programme funding, open access publication, talent encouragement, realisation of large-scale infrastructure and more. Although most grants are only available for researchers who have tenured positions at a Dutch (research) institute, some are also open for or targeted specifically at foreign researchers. More information on these grants can be found here
