Privacy Policy Holland Alumni network

The website www.hollandalumni.nl is a social and professional network owned by the Holland Alumni network of Nuffic allowing students and alumni from Dutch education institutions and partner organisations to stay connected to the Netherlands for life. The aim of the network is to enhance the network opportunities for Holland alumni in their field of expertise and/or their country of residence, to refresh and exchange knowledge and to provide training and career opportunities for alumni.

This privacy statement discloses what information the Holland Alumni network collects, how we use it, how you can correct, change and erase your information and how you can export your information in a structured, commonly used and machine-readable format. (art. 17 and 20 General Data Protection Regulation). The policy applies to all the services offered by the Holland Alumni network website.

Information we collect and how we use it

We collect personal information through the registration process. We only collect personal information with your explicit permission. If you revoke your permission for processing personal information we will no longer use your personal information.

We may collect the following types of information:

·        Information you provide – By making an online or written registration for the website of the Holland Alumni network, we ask you for personal information such as your name, email address and country of residence.

·        User communications – We may use your email address for communication with you.  

·        Third Party Applications – The Holland Alumni network may make available third-party applications, such as gadgets or extensions, through its services. The information collected by the Holland Alumni network when you enable a third-party application is processed under this Privacy Policy. Information collected by the third-party application provider is governed by the provider’s own privacy policy. Nuffic bears no responsibility or liability for information collected by third parties.

·        Additional Services – In some cases we collect additional information for the purpose of offering career services or for event registration. We only collect this information after you give us explicit permission to use it.

In addition to the above, we may use the information we collect to:

·         provide, maintain, protect and improve our services and develop new services;

·         inform you about news, new services, career opportunities and events;

·         send out surveys for research purposes;

·         protect the rights or property of the Holland Alumni network or of our users.

If we use this information in a manner other than the purpose for which it was collected, we will ask for your consent prior to such use.

Information sharing 

As a registered member of the Holland Alumni network, you commit yourself to not disclosing any of the personal information that is provided by other alumni.

We only share personal information with other organisations or individuals outside the Holland Alumni network in the following limited circumstances:

·        We have your explicit consent.

·        We provide such information to, your former Dutch higher education institution, your former Dutch Scholarship provider or affiliated organisations for the purpose of this personal information being processed on our behalf. We require that these parties agree to process such information in accordance with our instructions and in compliance with this Privacy Policy, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)  and any other appropriate confidentiality and security requirements.

Information security

We take appropriate security measures to protect against unauthorized access to or unauthorized alteration, disclosure or destruction of data. These measures include internal reviews of our data collection, storage and processing practices and other security measures, including appropriate encryption and physical protection measures, to guard against unauthorized access to systems where we store personal data.
If you find that your personal data or that of other alumni are being abused or lost, you should report this immediately to the contact person of the Holland alumni network: alumni@nuffic.nl. Than we can take required measures.

We restrict access to personal information to Nuffic employees, contractors and agents who need to access that information in order to process it on our behalf.

Accessing and updating personal information

We act in good faith to provide you with access to your personal information and to correct this data if it is inaccurate or to delete such data at your request if it does not otherwise need to be retained by law or for evaluation purposes. We also offer you the opportunity to data portability to provide you with your personal information in a structured, commonly used and machine-readable form.

Unsubscribe 

Unsubscribe from mailings

By registering, you agree to receive emails for the above mentioned purposes. In order to unsubscribe from mailings while remaining registered in the Holland Alumni network database, please adjust your preferences on the page 'Notifications by e-mail'.

After you unsubscribe from our mailing list you will no longer receive mailings from the Holland Alumni network but you will continue to be able to log in to the Holland Alumni network and make use of its functions.

Unsubscribe from the database

To unsubscribe from the Holland Alumni network database, please contact us via the contact form on the website.

After you unsubscribe your personal information will no longer be visible in the Holland Alumni network database nor will you receive any mailings or communications from the Holland Alumni network. 

Data storage

Personal data will be stored  in the context of alumni communications until such time as we are advised of your death, you unsubscribe from the network or you request otherwise. Because of the way we maintain certain services, residual copies may remain on our active servers for some time before they are deleted and they may remain in our backup systems following your unsubscribing from the Holland Alumni network.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

We reserve the right to amend this privacy policy within the framework of the applicable laws and regulations relating to privacy and data protection, more specifically the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). We will inform you about any amendments to our privacy policy. In case amendments follow from the widening of the purposes for which your personal data are used, we will ask you for explicit consent. This privacy policy was last modified on 5 June 2018.
